Week 3.11: Poetry from a Roadtrip

Week 3.11: Poetry from a Roadtrip is dedicated to a special set of girls and the time I spent with them recently. This summer our family went on a mission trip to the Navajo reservation. I had the great honor of riding in a passenger van with six delightful girls...and two poor sops who served as our chauffeurs. It's funny what can happen after a seven hour ride to our destination, four days of hard work and then a seven hour ride home with no A/C in the last week of June. Funny.

And amazing. In spite of, or maybe because of, the circumstances, a lot of really great bonding took place. Not on a social network, not over coffee or on the phone. In a hot, sweaty van with spontaneous, sweet-hearted females. Those girls wrangled everyone in the van into a poetry session...including me and the man who wasn't driving!!

Allegedly, our poetry is going to be put together as a book; I'll keep you posted. In the meantime, here are the two from the categories I submitted poems under: "Colorado" and "Color."

Colorado
Ever changing seasons
Bluster, shine, crisp and chill

Dance over meadows

Through canyons deep and still

Magnificent majesty

Ever expanding hearts swell

Beauty inexpressible

Color

My favorite color?

"It's color, of course!"

That's what my friend says...

And I agree!
Lime and citrus holding hands

Fluffy pink with turquoise dance

Keeping time are plum and rose

Making rhyme are sea and sand

All these colors in the land

Reflected in the sky

Good times. Week 3.11: Poetry from a Roadtrip is a snapshot from my vantage point.

I LOVE those girls!!!!
