Week 3.12: Mediocra is just one of many breathtaking vistas I passed over the long weekend. It is not a mediocre view...At least, in my book it's not.Today at work our office manager's response to a report was: "That's mediocra." And since we always tease her for being an Oklahoman, we quickly started making fun of her pronunciation. It quickly disintegrated to "Meaty Okra" and several casserole jokes ensued.
Still the Mediocra word got me thinking about a few things...
One: I fear and loathe mediocrity. And at the same time, I am mediocrity in the day to day. I'm okay with that. But it goes against the American grain. Still, the world needs the "little people" and I am happy to be counted in that number...
Two: I struggle with distinguishing what is the inane/mediocre/nonsense and what is the important/valuable/sensible thing...especially when I've been soaking in what appears to be mundane until I rival a prune.
Three: I find relief and a sense of joy when I remember that I live by a compass greater than my own creation. One not invented by man or any living creature but an eternal, omnipotent Being who knows the difference because He built it.
Four: I remember my place in the world again. And while it may appear Mediocra to some, it is vitally important. Yes. That's why I cook dinner and clean and brush my teeth and give spelling quizzes and check lunch boxes.
It's why I respond to this photo even though I know thousands of people wouldn't have hung their hand out the car window while clutching their camera and timing the press of the button with the shutter delay.
Yessir. I'm proud to be Mediocra.

Sarah,
Of all people to call mediocre, you are the least of which I would ever expect to BE that, though you may say you 'feel' that way sometimes. You could light up any mediocre day just by being you like a bright bouquet of exotic flowers... and I'd challenge that as a solution to any 'mediocra' room.
This being said, how did you know about our Zucchini Casserole?! ;)
I love that I have no idea who wrote this!! =)
I love that I got called a bright bouquet of exotic flowers.
And who ISN'T eating zucchini casserole this time of year?!
