Week 2.43: Happy Auntie Sarah

Week 2.43: Happy Auntie Sarah always brings a smile to my face. Really, who doesn’t smile when they see the grins on the faces of these two. This is a photo of my two darlings, Kallin (my nephew) and Aurora (my namesake niece). This photo was taken during the (too short) time they were in New Mexico before moving to Georgia.

During that time, Kallin and I had a little exchange that I treasure in my heart. We were at his great grandparents’, the Page’s, house and he was “drawing” everyone. He made us lie down on the sidewalk and then he traced an outline around us with giant sidewalk chalk.

Fastidious, meticulous and determined. Those are the words I think of when I see his little face hovering over mine in total concentration. When it was discovered that the line was broken in spots he had to go back with the chalk and make all the connections.
That part of the “drawing” complete, we went into discussions regarding features.

“Auntie Sarah, what color do you want your eyes to be?”

“What color are my eyes, Kallin Boy?”

Ummm....green?”

“Then let’s color them green.”

“K!”

“Auntie Sarah, what color do you want your hair to be?”

“What color is my hair, Kallin Boy?”

“Brown!”

“Do we have a color close to brown?”

“Purple!”

“Perfect!”

“Auntie Sarah, what color do you want your mouth to be?”

“What color are my lips?”

“Pink!”

“Do pink, then.”

“K! And I’m going to draw a big smile on you because you are Happy Auntie Sarah!”

Oh, Kallin Boy, I hope you are always aware of the joy I have in my heart because of you. You are right. I am Happy Auntie Sarah. And I always will be. I love you.

Forever.
