Week 45: Reminders

Week 45: Reminders is a photo of an archway over a memorial park. For those who don't speak Spanish it says: "God gives and God takes away."

This is, of course, a quote from Job as seen in Job 1:2o-22 (immediately following devastating news):
"Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped.
And he said:
'Naked I came from my mother's womb,
And naked shall I return there.
The LORD gave, and the LORD has taken away;
Blessed be the name of the LORD.'
In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong."

I've been reflecting a lot on this reaction and train of thought...which is why you get to read a poem I wrote this week as well...

Reminders

I remind you
of the wife before
wedding and dancing
the smile of her gazing
down to kiss you goodbye
in the dying

You remind me
of the place between
waking and dreaming
the smell of him leaning
down to kiss me goodbye
in the morning

I remind you
of the best friend
laughing and pranking
the silly of him hiding
down to show you fun
in the living

You remind me
of the time around
walking and holding
the summer of you shining
down to show me love
in the evening

I remind you
of the life behind
losing and praying
the sorrow of you leaving
down to find my love
in the eternal

You remind me
of the love forever
unending and growing
the strength of You sacrificing
up to give me all
in the world
