Week 3.31: Radiance

Week 3.31: Radiance is dedicated to my former roommate, Cory Poo Pants, 1/2 of Sacodova and her new husband, Matt. I took this photo on her wedding day, a day of Radiance. Even though I was busy as the matron-of-honor, I managed to stuff my brain with hundreds of photographs I never took.

Radiance somehow made it through my lens, though. This photograph captured the preceding seconds before her groom saw her Radiance for the first time. And just for the record, I was not stalking them. Well, maybe I was, but the rest of the wedding party in its entirety was looking on with joy, suspense and anticipation.

It wasn't just the bride that was full of Radiance. It was the blue sky bursting with thunderheads that left behind a glistening ceremony. It was the dappled sunlight raining down between the majestic cottonwoods. It was a lily pond bursting with pink and yellow buds straining to reach heaven. It was the humid air that held our skin so close I felt my Hawaii life around nearly every corner. It was the wraparound porches of terra cotta cooling bare feet. Wooden porch screen doors that creaked on hinges and slapped shut. Glow of candle. Lavender afloat in cool lemonade. Laughter. Fellowship. And my very favorite: a table spanning the longest side of the main hacienda's wide porch. Bright white linens, soft green foliage, polished silver, shining china, sparkling champagne.

Radiance. An irresistible invitation. Shoulder-to-shoulder rejoicing together over a new marriage and fragrant dinner we talked and laughed and watched kisses exchange as forks chimed against glass again and again.

It was a lovely day ripe with significance and in the midst of the celebrations that had begun the previous day the one image that stands out in Radiance is that long table. I cried the first time I spoke of it. And I'm crying as I write this. No shame. In place of shame, Radiance.

In spite of life and heartbreak and loneliness and hurt, we are each invited, carried to the table, by the King of Kings who invite us to forever feast with Him. Matt and Cory, your wedding all all its details big and small painted hints of a much larger celebration to come. Thank you for all the energies you spent (along with your amazing family and friends) to make a wedding day what it should always be. Radiance. I look forward to watching your story unfold.

Here is one of my favorite songs of all times: Carried to the Table by Leeland.

I'm crying now too! Thank you just doesn't say how happy I am to be able to have so many glimpses into Cory's special day from afar. And thank you just doesn't cover how I enjoy your writings - you just get better and better! Who wouldn't stay tuned for the next entry, no matter how intermittent! Rita
