Week 2.26: One was taken at the baseball stadium here in my hometown. It's a lovely, lovely stadium full of great angles and curves and colors and featuring a lovely couple in love with each other and the great American pastime. This engagement shoot was a total pleasure...even with stinging cold and fresh, hose-soaked seats under a cloudy (at best) sky.One is undoubtedly a favorite shot...on a personal level. It flies in the face of the studio shot and any sort of unnatural posing. It's not a traditional composition, but it's full of expression. This is a great snapshot of my photography personality. Thank goodness the bride-to-be "got" what I was trying to do. She was able to defend the "art" when a family member expressed their surprise at a blurry shot being included in the lineup. (haha...yet another great "misunderstood" moment to remember...)
One is also a favorite shot...on a universal level. It's two people who are planning to become One this summer. It's two people who attended every single game of last year's season together. She was the first girl who went to every game with him...that's when he knew she was the One.
One is also a favorite shot...on an inspirational level. This same girl shared some stuff with me that helped me through a rough patch in the "processing life" category. A bit of life coaching, if you will. Smile. Relax. Enjoy it. Repeat. Oddly enough, for a girl who avoids emotional theatrics, I can suffer inner turmoil with the best of them...One is a great reminder for the girl who can tie herself up into a knot before she even realizes she's done it.
One has imperfections. There will be storms ahead. There will be laughter, too. There will be things to sort out...there already are. It will all be worth it, because the goal here is not the sorting out but the experience, the journey. And One tells me that it's okay. It's going to be okay. And even though there are certain unknowns, definite challenges and guaranteed battles, One is safe.

Sarah, I love that you ended this blog with the word 'safe.' Nothing could have wrapped everything up more perfectly, at least for me, regardless! In the end that's all that matters.
The photo is genius. Why am I not surprised?
Sending love,
S.
