I cannot believe this is actual news from the Associated Press. As fried as I am 20 days from finals being due, this article made me laugh out loud.
Hope you enjoy it as I did...and happy USA Thanksgiving Day!!!
(P.S. I bet you can guess where I took this picture...)
WELLINGTON, New Zealand - A family court judge in New Zealand has had enough with parents giving their children bizarre names here, and did something about it.
Just ask Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii. He had her renamed.
Judge Rob Murfitt made the 9-year-old girl a ward of the court so that her name could be changed, he said in a ruling made public Thursday. The girl was involved in a custody battle, he said. (You read that right, folks, a little girl made it to the ripe old age of nine with this moniker!!!)
The new name was not made public to protect the girl's privacy.
The court is profoundly concerned about the very poor judgment which this child's parents have shown in choosing this name, he wrote. It makes a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and handicap, unnecessarily.
The girl had been so embarrassed at the name that she had never told her closest friends what it was. She told people to call her "K" instead, the girl's lawyer, Colleen MacLeod, told the court.
New Zealand law does not allow names that would cause offense to a reasonable person, (and what about unreasonable persons, I ask?) among other conditions, said Brian Clarke, the registrar general of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
Clarke said officials usually talked to parents who proposed unusual names to convince them about the potential for embarrassment.

I wonder what New Zealand thinks about alter egos? Well, good thing my alter ego is very firmly established!
This blog is dedicated to everyone who has had more than one name in their lifetime, especially to my friends with the alter egos...And a special shout out to poor little "K" aka Talula Does the Hula From Hawaii aka ??? ...Good luck, sweetie. I think you might need it.

my alter ego currently dates Chris Brown.
That's right, I'm his young black shorty.
Do you mean you're his "shoddy"? I know you're young...and in your secret heart, black. So it's not all that far fetched that you are Chris Brown's shoddy. :)
It's just as far fetched that my last name will soon be Radin! :) Oh, Josh! Yes! I will be the one!!
actually I had it right.
It is pronounced and spelled two different ways in the south.
Shorty or Shawty :)
Maybe my lack of knowledge of the South needs to be remedied by more frequent visits or a total relocation. :)
