Okay, so first off, I have to make a confession: perspective never ceases to confound me, especially in the drawing world...I am "Queen of Lousy-No-Good Perspective Drawing"-on a good day.In fact, someone who was very near and dear to my heart used to tease me and request drawings from me...particularly drawings of houses...Yes. You know who you are...if you even know this blog exists. We both know that your great delight in my rendering of my dream home near a lake was tremendous entertainment for you because of how many sides my house had (that it shouldn't have had) and how the lake was somehow visible from both above and below (despite retaining a remarkable 2D quality).
You should all be proud I rendered such an amazing "X" with my mad skills!
And yet...perspective never ceases to astound me. I have great respect and admiration for it. This week I ask you to view a series of photos: Perspective: One, Two and Three.
Go back up to the top and look at Perspective, One CLOSELY before you scroll down any further...Note the "X" in the right-hand corner...if you hadn't already. Draw a line (with your eye) across the photo and to the left (to the midway point on the left side of the photo). Have I lost you yet? Try to maintain your perspective...(haha).
I promise this has a point. Note where I told you to go with your eye...do you see the little tidepool with ripples? Make a guesstimate of how far apart (in height) the "X" and the tidepool are from each other...Got it? Now...scroll down to see Perspective, Two...
Now in Perspective, Two you see the rock I was sitting on and you see how much further down that tidepool was from where it seemed, right? Yes, the tidepool is actually (on the right) at the bottom 1/3 mark of the photo (give or take)... I'm going to guess the actual distance between the rock and the tidepool is about 20 feet. But, wait, there's more!! For a full shot view of Jemez Falls, scroll down yet again for Perspective, Three...
(Incidentally, for those who do not live in the great state of New Mexico or feel a bit rusty with the Spanish, Jemez is pronounced: "Hey-mez")...This is a gorgeous area about an hour and a half to two hours outside of Albuquerque. Gorgeous. And definitely worth the hike to see both sides of the falls...

Anyhow, because I can't help waxing philosophical, I have to say...I LOVE perspective. I love that perspective always changes. I love strange perspectives. I love seeing things in a light or angle or manner I never saw them before. I love how something unexpected can (seemingly) come out of nowhere and surprise you with its beauty and depth...all because of the wonder of perspective.
This week (and always) try to assess your perspective...Who do you truly love? What totally matters in the big picture? In the grand scheme of things, what is actually important? What do you absolutely need to do right now? Remember, it's all about Perspective.

My perspective at this very moment is that you are a better blogger than me. (that sentence is awful)
At least I was one of then people who nagged/urged you get your start. :)
Nice post as always...you almost lost me in the beginning with the follow your eye to the left of the x (I thought it was going to be math problem!) but then it all came together quite nicely.
I loved every tender moment of that post. I loved it! It was inviting and entertaining and also I hope when you said that person that "was" near and dear to you you meant in a strictly positional aspect...... ;D
I thought I knew you Sarah. Funny how my perspective has changed! You are incredibly talented dear. I mean I've seen many of your photos, but you write so beautifully Sarah! Thank you for sharing your soul.
I keep going back to this to read it again, and each time love it more. Good stuff.
