Week 50: Monsoon brings out something I’ve been meaning to do for almost a year: a secret confession. I guess in a way, this entire blog has been a secret confession, but I don’t think I’ve actually confessed outright that I’m making a secret confession...one of my favorite things to do.So, here we go...secret confession: Monsoon season convinces me that I’m still a kid. Really. And June brought us a great stretch of amazing Monsoon afternoons here in the gorgeous Southwest. I love splashing in puddles of warm rain water. It’s even better when I have Kallin or Joey by the hand. I love racing leaves and sticks in gutter streams. New Girl gets dragged into it and I have little regard for her throughout the brief storm and aftermath. Though, eventually I do come to my senses and dry her off.
Monsoon makes me wear flip flops with the great expectation that my feet will get wet today.
Yes. I’m sure it’s not dignified to splash through puddles. Yes, I’m sure it’s not common to see a girl playing in the gutter while it’s raining. Yes, I’m sure it’s not always safe to be outside while the sky booms and claps overhead. Yes, I'm sure I would've missed this shot had I been concerned with staying dry. Yes, I’m sure I love it.
Monsoon
Dull grey promises often empty
Gather together with increasing urgency
Thick air, close and heavy
Choke summer’s brilliance
Quick unseen whispers dance
Swirl together with growing confidence
Cool sweet touches expectant belief
Pool blue of promised relief
Fall onto upturned face and leave
Spattered together impressions of sky,
Full clear radiance as clouds fly
Only as they can on monsoon day
